TANECO refinery, Nizhnekamsk — mass drone attack

Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, Russia

What happened

Tatarstan authorities said Nizhnekamsk came under a massive drone attack targeting industrial and civilian facilities. They reported 13 people killed, including a child, and at least 75 wounded across the city; nine of the deaths were reported at a hostel. Associated Press described it as one of the deadliest attacks inside Russia during the full-scale war. An RT report updated earlier that day carried the same death toll but an earlier regional-government injury count of 48; the record retains the later figure of at least 75. Ukraine's General Staff said its forces struck Tatneft's TANECO oil refinery and started a fire. Russian officials did not identify the drones' specific targets, and the refinery strike and fire could not be independently verified in the reviewed reporting. The casualty figures apply to the wider Nizhnekamsk attack and must not be attributed specifically to the refinery site. This is a separate attack from the strikes on TANECO and other Nizhnekamsk facilities in June and July 2026.
