What happened

Ukrainian forces struck Gazprom's Astrakhan gas-processing plant near Aksaraysky, roughly 800 kilometres from the front line. Satellite imagery reviewed by Ukrainian analysts showed burn traces on protective structures around gas-separation units 1.U-272 and 2.U-272, with several fire vehicles nearby. The two units remove hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide from highly sour feed gas and together have design treatment capacity of up to 3 billion cubic metres per year, approximately one quarter of the plant's total project capacity. The imagery supports that the unit area was hit, but the available reporting does not yet establish the severity of equipment damage, a shutdown, casualties or an actual 25% production loss.
