What happened
Oil sludge caught fire inside a closed settling tank at the Atyrau Oil Refinery's mechanical treatment facilities. The operator said no work was taking place at the tank when the fire began. Kazakhstan's Emergency Situations Ministry deployed 65 personnel and 19 vehicles, contained the fire at 13:42 and subsequently extinguished it. No casualties were reported, refinery operations continued normally and the cause remained under investigation. The marker uses the refinery complex rather than an asserted tank coordinate.
When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
