Cardón refinery — catalytic-cracker fire

29 April 2026

Punto Fijo, Falcón, Venezuela

What happened

A large fire broke out while PDVSA was restarting the fluid catalytic cracker at the 310,000 bbl/d Cardón refinery after a site-wide blackout earlier in April. Workers said the refinery had been processing about 76,000 bbl/d before the incident. No injuries were reported, but PDVSA did not publish a response and the duration or scale of the resulting outage was not confirmed.
