What happened

Explosives struck Cerrejón's coal railway near Uribia in northern Colombia on the night of 22 September, affecting an empty train and derailing several wagons. Cerrejón evacuated personnel as a precaution and suspended railway operations while the Colombian Army secured the area and inspected the infrastructure. No injuries were reported and mine production continued. The operator described this as the sixth attack against its infrastructure in 2026.
