Chevron El Segundo refinery — jet-fuel unit fire

2 October 2025

El Segundo, California, United States

What happened

An explosion and fire broke out at 9:30pm in the Isomax 7 unit — which converts fuel oil into jet fuel — at Chevron's 285,000 bbl/d El Segundo refinery, which supplies roughly a fifth of Southern California's motor fuel and 40% of its jet fuel. Multiple units were taken offline; no injuries were reported. This was an accidental industrial incident, not an attack.
