What happened

Approximately 200 cubic meters of crude oil escaped at valve station 3 on the pipeline supplying PCK's Schwedt refinery from Rostock. The high-pressure release affected about two hectares. Responders stopped the leak, recovered free oil and removed roughly 2,000 cubic meters of contaminated soil. The pipeline was returned to service after about 80 hours following independent technical checks. PCK said refinery operations and regional fuel supplies were unaffected because inventories covered the interruption. Later surface-water and groundwater sampling found no adverse impact; the cause remained under investigation, while deliberate external interference was ruled out.
