23 November 2016

What happened

A fire broke out around 3am at Reliance Industries' Jamnagar refinery complex after a spark from a grinder ignited residual hydrocarbon gas in the fluid catalytic cracking unit, which was shut for maintenance. Two workers were killed and six others injured; site firefighters extinguished the fire quickly and refinery operations continued as normal. This was an accidental industrial fire, not an attack.
