What happened
A fire spread through an industrial compound on Jalan Cenderai 27 in the Kota Puteri area of Masai after flames emerged around a lorry and used-engine-oil storage operation. Leaking engine oil and strong winds accelerated the spread across roughly 1,000 square metres. Five premises were affected, including a used-oil storage area, recycling centre, soap-making factory, lorry parking site and construction-material store; reporting described three as completely destroyed and two as partially damaged. Fifteen vehicles, including tanker lorries, cars and motorcycles, were lost. Thirty-four firefighters and multiple appliances responded using water and foam. No casualties were reported, but residents of nearby homes were temporarily evacuated as thick black smoke and intermittent explosions continued. The fire was about 80% extinguished by midday on 22 June, with crews still working around large oil drums. The Johor Department of Environment said monitoring detected no abnormal ammonia readings or other hazardous emissions nearby. One 23-year-old worker, trapped inside after visiting the recycling centre, followed firefighters' advice not to attempt the burning main entrance and escaped on foot; the company's new one-tonne lorry he left behind was destroyed. The ignition cause and financial loss remained under investigation in the reviewed reporting.
