What happened

UK Maritime Trade Operations said the master of a tanker reported that an unknown projectile struck the vessel about 28 nautical miles (52 kilometres) southeast of al-Faw, Iraq. UKMTO said the crew was safe and no environmental impact had been reported at that time. Iraqi port officials, as reported by Reuters, identified the tanker as the Panama-flagged New Andros and said Iraqi rescue vessels extinguished the resulting fire without reported casualties. A later Al Jazeera update cited an unnamed Iraqi source placing the tanker at Khor al-Amaya port near Basra's loading area and saying it carried two million barrels of Iraqi oil. Earlier secondary reporting described the cargo as Iraqi fuel oil. Neither the cargo description nor quantity appears in UKMTO's advisory, so both remain attributed rather than confirmed. Local media described the weapon as a drone, but UKMTO did not confirm the weapon type or attacker; the record therefore retains 'unknown projectile' as the verified description. The marker is approximate and represents the reported offshore area, not a verified impact coordinate.

When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
