What happened

Ukraine's transmission-system operator Ukrenergo said Russia carried out a massive missile-and-drone attack on energy infrastructure in Odesa region overnight into 2 September. Ukraine's Energy Ministry reported that a large number of consumers were left without electricity, and Reuters described a large part of the region as affected. Emergency repairs began when security conditions allowed. Public Ukrainian reporting did not identify the substations, lines or generating facilities struck, publish a customer total or megawatt loss, or confirm that the entire regional grid failed; this record therefore uses an approximate Odesa regional marker and does not infer individual impact sites. Separate outages were also reported in Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Kherson regions, but the reviewed sources did not establish that each resulted from a newly struck named energy facility. This attack is separate from the Odesa combined heat-and-power plant damage recorded for the preceding night, 1 September.
