Omsk refinery — accidental crude-unit fire

26 August 2024

Omsk, Russia

What happened

An explosion and fire disabled roughly half of Gazprom Neft's Omsk refinery's processing capacity, affecting crude distillation unit CDU-11 while a second unit, CDU-10, was already idle after an earlier fire. Seven people were hospitalized, one seriously. Russian investigators opened a criminal case over industrial-safety violations; officials said the fire was not linked to a drone attack. This was an accidental industrial incident, distinct from the drone strikes that have separately targeted this refinery.
