What happened
A side leak in a fuel-storage tank at PetroOceania's Walu Bay terminal triggered a large precautionary response in Suva's industrial hub. Nearby businesses, workers and offices were evacuated, police cordoned entry points from Suva and Lami, and Syria and Argo Streets were closed while National Fire Authority crews contained the product and managed the risk of fire or explosion. PetroOceania isolated the premises, directed leaked product into the site's bund and separator pit, transferred fuel to alternate storage and patched the tank. No injuries were reported. Joint inspections and drone surveillance found no discharge to surrounding waterways, marine-life impact or wider environmental damage. Reporting differed on whether the leak was formally detected at about 5:00 or 6:30 in the morning, so this record does not claim a more precise time. Fiji Sun described it as Walu Bay's second reported fuel-related incident since a separate Mobil Oil Fiji event in 2013.
