Port-Jérôme-sur-Seine refinery — exchanger leak fire

7 September 2021

Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon, France

What happened

A flaming crude-oil leak was detected on an exchanger of the distillation unit at the Port-Jérôme refinery around 2:27am. The operator's internal emergency plan brought the fire under control within about twenty minutes; a preventive foam blanket was applied and no hydrocarbon was detected outside the exchanger area. This was an accidental industrial fire, not an attack.
