What happened

An explosion around 4am at Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical's Jinshan plant killed the driver of a transport vehicle and injured another employee, then spread into a fire across three buildings near the ethylene-glycol facility. It took 563 firefighters and 113 fire engines roughly five hours to bring under control. Air quality had returned to near-normal by evening and no water pollution was found nearby. Cause was under investigation and not established in the cited reporting. This was an accidental industrial incident, not an attack.
