What happened

A gas line supplying the Tishreen thermal power plant exploded near Al-Otaibah in the Damascus countryside, causing a fire and interrupting fuel supplies to the Tishreen, Deir Ali and Nasiriyah power plants. The Syrian Electricity Company said all three plants went out of service and warned of temporarily reduced generation and longer electricity-rationing periods. Specialized teams closed gas valves, isolated the damaged section and brought the fire under control. The reviewed official reporting did not establish what caused the explosion, so this record does not classify it as an attack or sabotage. The coordinate is the power-plant location verified by Reuters from imagery, not a published pipeline rupture coordinate.

When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
