What happened

UK Maritime Trade Operations received a master's report involving two unidentified vessels approximately four nautical miles west of Khasab, Oman. The reporting master said four unknown projectiles struck the two vessels about six nautical miles north of the master's position and that one vessel caught fire. Maritime-security company Vanguard Tech subsequently identified one vessel as ROMANCE, a Panama-flagged, approximately 50,000-dwt crude tanker built in 2009 and owned and managed from the UAE; this remains a company identification rather than a vessel name published by UKMTO. Vanguard reported that two projectiles struck one vessel and caused a fire before two more hit the other. The available reports do not make clear whether ROMANCE was the vessel that caught fire. The second vessel's identity and condition, both crews' status, cargoes, pollution, damage extent, projectile types and responsibility remain unreported. This entry therefore preserves the identification as reported and does not assign an attacker or count either vessel as destroyed.

When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.

Responsibility has not been established in the cited reporting.

Approximate marker placed four nautical miles west of Khasab from the initial UKMTO-reported location. The reporting master observed the impacts about six nautical miles north of the master's own position, so this is an incident-area reference rather than a verified strike coordinate.
