What happened

An explosion around 5:17am hit compressor area 4 of Pemex's Nohoch Alfa platform, part of the Cantarell complex about 80km northwest of Ciudad del Carmen, while maintenance was underway on sour-gas lines. Two Cotemar contractors were killed, eight people were injured and one went missing; of 328 workers aboard, 321 were rescued by response vessels. Pemex reported roughly 1.53 million barrels of lost production and about $107 million in losses. This was an accidental offshore industrial incident, not an attack.
