Pemex E-Ku-A2 platform, Bay of Campeche — offshore fire

22–23 August 2021

Bay of Campeche, Mexico

What happened

A fire broke out during maintenance at Pemex's E-Ku-A2 gas-processing platform, part of the Ku-Maloob-Zaap complex in the Bay of Campeche, killing five workers and injuring six others while two more were initially reported missing. The platform provided gas and electricity to 125 wells, all of which were forced offline, cutting roughly 421,000 barrels/day of production. This was an accidental offshore industrial incident, not an attack.
