Olmeca refinery, Dos Bocas — vacuum-residue tank fire

16 May 2026

Dos Bocas, Tabasco, Mexico

What happened

A brief fire appeared outside a vacuum-residue storage tank at Pemex's Olmeca refinery in Dos Bocas shortly after midnight, during scheduled steam-emptying and controlled-venting maintenance work. Pemex said the flame was contained immediately using standard safety procedures, with no injuries and no lasting disruption to operations. This was the latest in a series of safety incidents at the refinery in a short period. This was an accidental industrial incident, not an attack.
