Petrobras multimodal terminal, Serra — fuel/logistics terminal fire

27 January 2019

Serra, Espírito Santo, Brazil

What happened

A substantial fire broke out at Petrobras's Terminal Industrial Multimodal in Serra, Espírito Santo, damaging a tent used to store naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) equipment and spilling material from ruptured drums onto the floor. Brazil's National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) activated its emergency team and later conducted a radiometric survey; no radiological release beyond the site was reported. This was an accidental fuel/logistics terminal fire, not an attack.
