What happened

UK Maritime Trade Operations said a vessel was sighted listing at anchor about 24 nautical miles (44 kilometres) northwest of Port Rashid, Dubai, possibly indicating water ingress after an attack by an unknown projectile. A later Al Jazeera update identified it as the oil-products tanker Hercules Star and cited charterer Peninsula reporting that one seafarer had been killed, one crew member was missing and all other crew were accounted for. The cause of death was not disclosed. UKMTO said the initial sighting came from a third party, and the vessel's flag, cargo, pollution status and full damage assessment remain unavailable. The incident is recorded separately from the New Andros attack off Iraq. UKMTO's broader advisory that several merchant vessels were subjected to disabling fire may overlap with this and other reports and is not counted as additional individual attacks.
