What happened

Myanmar resistance fighters flew six small quadcopter FPV drones, carrying explosives comparable to 60mm mortar bombs, into hangars at the Tada-U airbase, co-located with Mandalay International Airport, on 10 September, according to Asia Times and Myanmar Now. The hangars housed Yakovlev Yak-130 jet trainers, of which the junta previously operated 24; video showed drones striking protective netting over hangar openings, and one unexploded drone was found on a taxiway. The opposition National Unity Government said the strike 'accurately targeted areas where the Yak-130 fighters were parked' but stopped short of claiming aircraft were destroyed, and separately claimed five Myanmar Air Force personnel were killed, including a colonel, along with three opposition fighters in the security response. State-run Global New Light of Myanmar said the drones were intercepted by counter-drone measures. The strike site was described as well over two kilometers from the civilian terminal, limiting direct disruption to Mandalay's civilian flights. This record introduces the Myanmar civil war as a further conflict dimension in the site's airbase/airport-strike coverage.
