Ukraine's General Staff confirmed that Ukrainian forces targeted the Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Yaroslavl overnight on 28 August. Eyewitness footage published online appeared to show two separate fires on the plant grounds; ASTRA geolocated the footage from Yaroslavl's Dyadkovo district to the refinery. Ukrainian defence company Fire Point said FP-1 long-range drones were used. The General Staff said the damage assessment was continuing, and neither Russian authorities nor the refinery had identified an affected unit or confirmed a production shutdown at entry time. Reporting described this as the eighth attack on Slavneft-YANOS in 2026, after incidents dated 28 March, 26 April, 8 May, 22 May, 6 July, 16 July and 6 August. That figure is retained as a reported campaign count, not an independently verified measure of damage from every event. The roughly 15-million-tonne-per-year plant is among Russia's five largest refineries. Governor Mikhail Yevrayev said one civilian was killed and 27 people were injured when falling drone debris struck an intercity bus during the wider regional attack. He separately reported debris falling on residential areas, commercial properties and industrial infrastructure. The reviewed reporting does not locate the bus casualties at the refinery, so this record does not assign casualties to the site despite headlines combining the fatality and refinery fire.
