What happened
Ukraine's General Staff confirmed a strike on the AVT-3 crude-distillation unit at the Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Yaroslavl on the night of 16-17 September, part of a combined operation that also targeted a Russian military airfield near Rostov-on-Don. This is a distinct, separately confirmed strike from the 6 August attack on the same refinery, which reporting at the time did not tie to the AVT-3 unit specifically (that designation elsewhere in Russian refining coverage refers to a different plant, at Ryazan). The reviewed reporting did not publish independent damage-extent imagery or a production-halt confirmation for this strike; no casualties were reported.
When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
