What happened
Sudan’s government reports a drone strike causing severe damage and taking Al-Markhiyat transformer station out of service on 27 October. It describes outages across parts of Khartoum, River Nile and other states. AP separately reports prolonged disruption affecting hospitals, bakeries and water supplies. Attribution to the RSF comes from government and electricity-sector sources. Customer totals, lost load and restoration completion are not established. This is separate from the five-site southeastern Sudan attack of 26 October. The marker uses an Omdurman city reference, not a verified station position. Alzool’s 28 October report relays the distribution company’s warning of prolonged scheduled cuts in Khartoum while network repairs continue, with no completion deadline. Its discussion of longer cuts in Red Sea and River Nile states is explicitly a concern rather than an official forecast. This is a service-recovery update, not another strike. Ultra Sudan’s 28 October eyewitness report describes electricity returning gradually to several neighbourhoods in Bahri, East Nile and Khartoum on Tuesday evening. This establishes reported partial consumer reconnection, not repair of Al-Markhiyat or full grid restoration. Updated on 28 October 2026, 06:40 UTC+0.
