What happened

Iran launched a missile strike on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, home to US Central Command's regional headquarters, on the evening of 23 June 2025, in a operation Iran's Revolutionary Guards codenamed 'Operation Glad Tidings of Victory.' It was retaliation for the US 'Operation Midnight Hammer' strike the previous day, which used bunker-buster bombs against Iran's Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities. Iran said it fired 14 missiles; US officials said 13 were intercepted and one crashed harmlessly off-target, while Qatar's Defense Ministry said all missiles were intercepted with no casualties; Iran's own account claimed six missiles successfully struck the base. Satellite imagery confirmed visible damage to the radome housing the Modernization Enterprise Terminal, a $15 million secure communications system, and a later report said the base's Combined Air Operations Center was rendered inoperable. Iran provided advance warning to Qatar and the US hours before the strike, and a ceasefire followed within hours.
