What happened

Asharq Al-Awsat reports UKMTO saying the master of a merchant vessel relayed a mayday call reporting that another vessel had been struck by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on 1 November. The struck vessel’s name, type, damage, crew status and attacker were not given. This is a relayed report, distinct from the 30 October Al Mayeda strike. ANI reports the UKMTO warning referred to an incident at approximately 15:09 UTC. gCaptain identifies it as UKMTO warning 191-26. House of Saud reports the Panama-flagged offshore tug Selat Storm was struck and partially sank northwest of the Musandam Peninsula at about 15:00 UTC; no source has confirmed that the tug is the vessel in the mayday. Updated on 2 November 2026, 17:00 UTC+0. Riviera Maritime Media, citing Marisks, puts the Selat Storm strike at 15:09 UTC, matching UKMTO 191, and a NAVAREA IX warning from Pakistan’s hydrographic office says the tug sank about 0.6 nautical miles west of Jazirat Umm al-Ghanam (26°22.55′N 056°20.47′E); crew status was not confirmed. The marker uses the NAVAREA position. Updated on 4 November 2026, 17:30 UTC+0. Iran’s separate claim that two tankers struck mines the same day is recorded separately; the reviewed reporting does not establish whether the two accounts describe the same vessel. Updated on 2 November 2026, 02:30 UTC+0. The marker is a broad regional reference.
