What happened

Reuters, relaying an IRGC statement carried by IRNA, reports Iran's claim that four oil tankers were destroyed and were still ablaze after striking naval mines while trying to traverse a route it described as prohibited south of the Strait of Hormuz, and that two other vessels were seized. The statement did not identify the vessels, owners, flags, cargoes, exact locations or casualties, and there was no immediate independent confirmation from UKMTO, JMIC, CENTCOM or shipowners. Al Jazeera noted it could not be verified whether the claim is linked to the UKMTO-reported projectile strike on the tanker Grit off Limah on 3 November. This is a distinct claim from the IRGC's 1 November two-tanker mine claim. The marker is a broad regional reference, not a mine or vessel position.
