What happened
The Houthis said Aramco facilities in Jazan were among the targets of their large missile-and-drone attack wave, while Saudi authorities attributed the regional attacks to the Houthis and confirmed fires at southern energy sites. Copernicus Sentinel-2 imagery captured at 07:30 UTC on 8 September independently shows an intense shortwave-infrared heat source and a smoke plume at Saudi Aramco's Jizan Bulk Plant that were absent in a 6 September comparison image. Reuters separately published NASA Worldview imagery showing black smoke around the broader Jazan Aramco area. In a later strategic assessment, Associated Press reported that the Houthis had damaged the Jizan refinery, citing Kpler oil expert Homayoun Falakshahi. That report strengthens the evidence of damage in the wider Jizan Aramco area but does not resolve whether AP's refinery wording refers to the refinery itself, the adjacent bulk plant or both. OSINT613 assessed that at least three oil-storage tanks were burning, but the open Sentinel-2 scene has 10-metre pixels and cannot conclusively resolve or count individual damaged tanks. The imagery establishes a fire at the bulk plant, not the weapon, exact number of tanks affected, production loss or cause by itself. No casualty, pollution or quantified capacity-loss report was identified for this facility.
When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
