What happened

Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree claimed on 16 September that Ansar Allah forces shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter over Marib Governorate using a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile, without specifying the system. The group released forward-looking-infrared footage and ground and aerial photographs of wreckage identifying the aircraft as an F-15SA, tail number 5539, assigned to the 55th Squadron at King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait. Reuters reported the claim remained not independently verified, and Saudi Arabia had made no public acknowledgment of a loss as of the time of reporting, while intensifying air operations against Houthi positions. The fate of the aircraft's two crew members was unclear in the reviewed reporting.
