What happened
Siasat reports UKMTO warning 197-26, a delayed report, saying the master of an outbound tanker reported an explosion at the waterline on its port side at 22:00 UTC on 5 November, about 16 nautical miles east of Khasab, Oman. UKMTO initially said all crew were safe and the tanker remained under its own power and continued its voyage. UKMTO did not give the cause or the extent of damage, and no attacker was named. It is not established whether this is one of the vessels in Iran's 5–6 November mine claims. The JMIC advisory of 5 November separately reported four attacks off Musandam between 1 and 3 November. Update, 7 November: AFP, citing a Velos Tankers statement carried by Greece's ANA, named the vessel as the Greek-owned, Marshall Islands-flagged tanker Velos Sapphire, sailing empty to Bahrain. The owner said the explosion on Thursday was likely caused by an unidentified projectile that struck the port quarter, causing a fire, and that one seafarer was killed. This contradicts UKMTO's initial report that all crew were safe. AFP matched the vessel to the UKMTO waterline report; the owner's projectile account conflicts with the IRGC's claim that tankers struck mines, and CENTCOM said mines had been cleared. The attacker is not established.
