What happened

The Rwanda-backed AFC/M23 armed group claimed responsibility for a kamikaze-drone attack on Kisangani Airport in DR Congo's Tshopo Province overnight on 31 January-1 February, with spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka stating on 4 February that the group destroyed a military command center at the airport it described as a hub for operations against civilians and M23 positions. The Congolese army gave a contradictory account, saying it neutralized eight kamikaze drones targeting the airport and prevented damage to the facility. No casualties were reported by either side. A follow-up attack on 2 March, using four kamikaze drones loaded with submunitions, was also intercepted according to provincial authorities, with no casualties or reported damage; that second incident is referenced here rather than recorded separately given the overlapping, unconfirmed damage picture.
