What happened
Two to three mortar shells struck an open, unoccupied area of Mogadishu's Aden Adde International Airport on the morning of 6 April, a Somali security official told AFP. No casualties were reported, but the attack disrupted international flights: a Turkish Airlines plane was rerouted to Djibouti and EgyptAir cancelled its scheduled flight. The airport, which also hosts African Union and allied military operations against al-Shabaab, has been targeted by mortar fire periodically during the group's long-running insurgency.
