What happened
Ukraine's Navy said an unmanned surface vessel struck the Russian-flagged multipurpose support vessel NEFRIT in the Port of Sochi. Published footage shows an explosion and smoke at the reported port location, supporting that a strike occurred, but Russia had not confirmed the incident in the reviewed reporting. The Navy said NEFRIT supports oil-and-gas production, offshore-facility servicing, personnel and cargo transport and subsea engineering. Public sources did not establish the vessel's damage extent, operational status, crew casualties or pollution. This record therefore retains Ukrainian attribution and the vessel's energy-support role without treating destruction or sinking as confirmed.
When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
