What happened

Saudi-led coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki said coordinated Houthi attacks early on 8 September affected civilian and economic facilities across Abha, Jazan, Najran and Khamis Mushait, wounding 73 people including women and children. Saudi Arabia's Energy Ministry separately confirmed fires at several energy facilities and utilities in the southern region and said some operations were temporarily suspended. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree later said dozens of ballistic missiles and drones targeted Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries, Aramco facilities in Abha, Najran and Jazan, and King Khalid Air Base at Khamis Mushait; Houthi-run media also named Abha International Airport. In the same statement, Saree described King Khalid Air Base and King Fahd Air Base at Taif as departure points for Saudi aircraft allegedly conducting strikes in Yemen. That wording does not establish King Fahd as a target of the 8 September operation. Associated Press subsequently reported a separate Houthi claim against an unidentified military base in Sharurah on 13 September, but no impact or damage was confirmed; that later claim is recorded separately. The Houthis claimed precise impacts and extensive damage at their stated targets, but Saudi statements did not identify the individual facilities affected or confirm damage at each named site.
