What happened

An airport employee found a drone carrying professional explosive and a detonator inside Leipzig/Halle Airport's secured cargo area near the southern runway during the night of 4–5 August. Both runways were temporarily closed and flights were diverted while specialists made the device safe. Germany's federal prosecutor said there were sufficient factual indications that an explosion was intended and that a cargo aircraft forced to go around collided in the wider airport area with an object believed to be a second drone. Investigators later recovered further drone material and explosive evidence near the airport. On 1 September, the German government formally attributed the attempted hybrid attack to Russia, citing the device configuration, components, explosive and detonator as matching patterns known from other Russian operations; the underlying intelligence was not published in full. Russia denied involvement and President Vladimir Putin described the event as a false flag. A commentary republished by ZeroHedge advances the same false-flag interpretation, arguing motive and implausibility, but supplies no independently verifiable evidence that German or Ukrainian actors staged the devices.
