What happened

At least five people were killed on 17 September 2026 as Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthis traded attacks: a Yemeni resident of Saudi Arabia's Taif governorate died and two others were injured after a Houthi drone was intercepted there, while in Yemen one civilian was killed in Taiz province and another injured in the town of Abs, according to Al Jazeera. The Houthis claimed Saudi warplanes targeted three telecommunications towers in Taiz. Saudi Arabia separately alleged the Houthis had launched a drone toward Mecca that was intercepted and destroyed — a claim Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi called 'a heinous lie.'
