What happened

UK Maritime Trade Operations Warning 139-26 recorded a verified, time-late report that an unidentified tanker was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz on 16 September. The crew were reported safe, but no damage assessment or environmental-impact report was available. The warning did not identify the vessel, its flag, operator, cargo, precise position or the projectile, and it did not assign responsibility. The Associated Press reported this as a separate incident from Iran's 17 September claim concerning the tanker TREND. This record therefore does not merge the two events.

When cited sources give different casualty, damage or spill figures for this event, they’re reported side by side above rather than merged into one number. See how confidence levels work.
