What happened

Yemen's Houthi movement claimed it used ten drones to strike Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oil and natural-gas-liquefaction field in the Empty Quarter on 17 August 2019, describing it as the group's biggest and deepest attack inside the kingdom to that point. Saudi Aramco confirmed a limited fire at the natural-gas liquefaction facility, said its emergency-response teams brought it under control, and stated there were no injuries and no interruption to Aramco's oil operations; the field's normal output of about one million barrels per day continued unaffected in the reviewed reporting. Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih characterized the strike as a terrorist and sabotage act using explosive-laden drones and blamed the Houthi movement, describing it as part of an escalating pattern of cross-border attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure.
